Melrose Residents – Please Complete the Below Survey!

Over the last year, Bronx Health REACH has been working with WHEDco to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of the Melrose community in the Bronx. The goal of this assessment is to better understand the community’s needs and interests with respect to transportation, housing, health, education, arts and entertainment, economic development, employment, green spaces and recreation, and other priorities. Currently, we are surveying people who live, work or go to school in the Melrose community (10451, 10455, 10456) to better understand their needs and interests. The information collected in the surveys will be used to design programs and advocate around the community’s pressing concerns. All responses will be confidential. Below are links to the survey in English and Spanish. Also, we can drop off printed copies at your building/organization and/or administer the survey to a large group if that would be helpful.

Healthy Eating Out:  Raising the Bar for Nutrition at Restaurants Webinar - December 17th
Americans today spend nearly half their food dollars at restaurants and other food service establishments. Eating out contributes to poor diet quality and obesity. Restaurant foods and beverages often contain high levels of calories, saturated fat, sugars, and salt. Restaurant practices, like large portions, upselling, free refills of sugary beverages, and unhealthy default side dishes, are not conducive to healthy eating.
The webinar presenters will describe policy and program options for improving restaurant food and beverages. The webinar will give an overview of a novel set of restaurant performance standards that include guidelines for healthier adult and children’s meals and healthier restaurant practices.  Presenters will discuss two existing healthier restaurant programs, including their strengths, challenges, and advice to others interested in creating similar programs.
