Many Kids Go Hungry During The Summer - You Can Help Prevent This
It’s still cold out there, but we want you to start thinking about summer and how you can prevent summertime hunger right now. Please join us for any or all of our interactive webinars about the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) to learn how you can get involved with this wonderful program that feeds hungry children during the summer. Or simply join the webinars to share your experiences and connect with other interesting people. SFSP is a very creative program and it allows everyone to have a role whether you are a parent, business owner, non-profit, school employee, elected official, or concerned individual.
Background
Every summer when school ends, millions of kids and teens are at risk of going hungry because they no longer have access to the free and reduced-price meals they received when they were in school. The USDA has created the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) to cover this summer meal gap. However, SFSP is one of the most underutilized government programs with only about 16% of eligible kids participating. This is why we need your help. You, as an individual or organization, can get involved in so many different ways. You can serve the meals, promote the program, provide transportation, volunteer at summer food sites, or even go out and find sponsors. Join our webinars to learn all about the program and how fun it is to get involved. For more information about SFSP please visit: www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp
