A Little Taste of Everything is a non-profit that runs Mill Creek Farm in West Philadelphia. The Mill Creek Farm implements its mission through farm-based learning programs, by cultivating
and
distributing fresh produce, and by demonstrating ecological technologies and creative resource use to provide for basic needs. We believe in food justice: that everyone has a right to
affordable, healthy, quality, culturally appropriate food that is accessed in a way that is community-controlled,
environmentally sustainable, and socially just.
A Little Taste of Everything is hiring a Director of Farm & Education Programs for Mill Creek Farm. The Director of Farm & Education Programs will be responsible for developing and facilitating educational
programs and coordinating farm operations and as well as supervising a farmer and AmeriCorps VISTA member, maintaining collaborations, supporting the Board of Directors with fundraising, and bringing in income through the sale of vegetables. The Director of
Farm & Education Programs will report directly to the Board of Directors. The position is full time year round. Compensation will be based on experience and includes two weeks paid vacation, federal holidays, and 8 days paid sick leave.
The Director of Farm & Education Programs will be responsible for the following:
1.
Program Management
Educational Programs
◦
Coordinate and lead farm educational programs for K-university students
◦
Coordinate 6-week summer internship for high school aged youth
◦
Host monthly community workshops on-site on farm related topics
◦
Host cooking, nutrition, and garden education programs for elementary aged students
both on-site and at local schools.
Oversee food production and distribution
◦
Create schedule for youth interns, apprentices, and volunteer days
◦
Work with Farmer to develop crop plan and maintain harvest and sales records
◦
Work with Farmer to maintain farm grounds including bees, fruit trees, annual vegetable
beds, compost bins, litter management, etc.
◦
Maintain collaborations and partnerships with PHS, Philadelphia Community Farming
Collaborative, Mariposa, West Philly Food Hub, etc.
Volunteer Management
◦
Organize volunteer days (with Farmer)
◦
Maintain volunteer database including hours and contact information

Administrative
Prepare monthly Board reports
Manage staff:
◦
Hire, train, supervise, and provide support for Farmer and AmeriCorps VISTA
◦
Work w/ Farmer to hire apprentices
◦
Annual staff evaluations
◦
Collaborative staff dynamic is encouraged
Bi-weekly check-ins with Board Chair
Process Payroll for staff
Financial Management: budgeting, creating monthly financial reports, monitoring cash
flow, bill payment, deposits, working with accountant to report annual 990.
Maintaining website and social media (with support from VISTA)
Create annual report for funders and supporters
3. Development
Support Board and VISTA with grant writing, research, and tracking
Donor Solicitation
Monthly newsletters and bi-annual appeals
Organizing seasonal fundraisers
Maintain donor database
Required Experience
5+ years of urban farm or agricultural work
3+ years of youth development work
1+ year of grant writing experience (preferred)
Required Skills
Ability to multi-task, manage projects independently, and prioritize tasks
Able to relate with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds
Able to work successfully in a team environment
Excellent written, oral, and relationship building skills
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Other Helpful Skills
Experience with QuickBooks, accounting, and financial management
Experience supervising others
Schedule
