Institute of Medicine Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education Workshop

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education will be holding a workshop Scaling up Best Practices in Community-based Health Professional Education on May 1-2, 2014. The Forum aims to apply an ongoing, multi-national, multi-disciplinary approach to exploring promising innovations in health education. This workshop will provide a framework for understanding the responsibilities of health professions, institutions, and students to the communities they serve; and to explore a wide variety of innovative models of community-based health professional education. Kathryn M. Kolasa PhD, RD, LDN, the Academy's alliance representative serving on the planning committee, will be a presenter. A special two-hour session targeting web viewers will take place on May 2 beginning at 8:45 AM ET. This session will highlight examples of community-based educational activities. Click here to register for the workshop or webcast.

There is an opportunity for nutrition and dietetics professionals to share their work through a poster at the workshop. On May 1 (beginning at 5:30 PM), the IOM Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education will be having a reception and poster session for the Scaling up Best Practices in Community-based Health Professional Education workshop. The poster session is meant to highlight examples of community-based health professional educational activities, and to encourage interaction and networking among Forum members and alternates, speakers, and in-person participants. If you are interested in presenting a poster, please submit an abstract for your poster presentation to [log in to unmask] (copy [log in to unmask]) by March 28, 2014, and indicate in your email that it is an abstract for the poster session. Space is limited, each abstract will be carefully reviewed and the top abstracts will be invited to have a poster or display on May 1.
