Dear Colleagues—

Did you know that 94 percent of doctors feel that nutrition should be part of primary care visits – even for a referral to a dietician or nutritionist – but only 14 percent feel qualified to offer it?

Please join us this Friday for a lunch and briefing on the importance of nutrition education for health care professionals. Hear from academic experts and practitioners about how we can improve nutrition education throughout the career of a health care professional – by offering training while in medical school and residency and by offering continuing medical education while in practice – and how nutrition counseling can play a vital role in the prevention and management of expensive and often fatal chronic disease.

Seven out of every ten deaths in America are caused by preventable chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes that can be prevented and treated through diet and other lifestyle changes. More than 75 percent of health care expenditures are due to chronic disease. Even though nine out of ten doctors express the need for more nutrition counseling and referral in primary care visits and over half of medical school students desire more nutrition education, less than 15 percent of primary care visits include nutrition and nearly three out of four medical schools do not offer basic nutrition education.

We hope that you can come to Friday's event.
