• Inventory, prepare and deliver supplies needed for nutrition and health events at farmers markets and

Required Skills and QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree with coursework in nutrition and health, food production, or
related areas.

• Willingness to travel throughout NYC and to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate in English (orally and in writing); bilingual Spanish highly desired.

The primary responsibility of the Nutrition Education Coordinator is to develop, implement, and oversee the Nutrition Health Education program for clients living with HIV who receive food pantry services at African Services Committee. Most of these clients are African or Caribbean immigrants. The Nutrition Education Coordinator will serve as part of a dynamic, effective team, which aims to meet comprehensive health and supportive service needs of immigrants living with HIV/AIDS. The goal of the program is to improve the nutritional status, adherence to HIV treatment, and quality of life of people living with HIV in New York City.
African Services Committee is a New York City-based immigrant services and self-sufficiency service organization, whose mission is to improve the health and self-sufficiency of the African community, through provision of direct health, housing, social and legal services, AIDS advocacy, policy work, and technical assistance benefiting African refugees and immigrants in New York City and in low-income communities in Africa.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
The Nutrition Education Coordinator will coordinate and implement food pantry and nutrition education services adherent to the standards of the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute-funded nutrition health education program. This position requires a high level of independence as well as the ability to work effectively with colleagues in other programs to ensure comprehensive and coordinated services are delivered to clients:
• Recruit, screen and enroll new clients into the nutrition health education program;
• Obtain required documentation needed to ensure client eligibility for program, including nutrition assessments;
• Prepare and deliver nutrition health education in individual and group sessions;
• Distribute food pantry to clients;
• Ensure accurate tracking and documentation of all services in client files;
• Support data entry of services into AIDS Institute reporting system database;
• Prepare monthly reports to funder, contribute to annual workplan as needed;
• Monitor nutritional adequacy of food pantry;
• Conduct outreach to recruit new clients as needed;
• Supervise nutrition program assistant(s);
• Coordinates community partnerships/relationships with other providers of complementary food and health services
• Liaise with AIDS Institute contract manager;
• Attend AIDS Institute required meetings and trainings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of a BA or BS, Masters preferred, in Nutrition or related degree with significant nutrition coursework
• 2-3 years of experience developing and facilitating nutrition health education at the community level, including counseling and group sessions
• 2-3 years of experience working in the field of HIV/AIDS or with other chronic illnesses
• Experience in program coordination or grants management
• Excellent communication, writing, and time management skills
• Fluent Spanish speaker preferred, French language skills highly valuable
• Cultural and linguistic competence with the African and Caribbean immigrant community
• Experience with MS Office programs
• High level of initiative, self-motivation and energy
• Strong commitment to increasing quality of life and expanding access to HIV/AIDS treatment and supportive nutrition, in solidarity with people in and from the global South.

Through funding provided by Office of Temporary Disability Assistance through a statewide program administered by Hunger Solutions New York, HWCLI's Nutritional Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) has helped thousands of Long Islanders access Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly known as food stamps. The fundamental goal of NOEP is to increase the availability and utilization of federal nutrition assistance programs as a means to ensure better nutrition and reduce the incidence of hunger among low-income populations. Strategies include networking with an array of local service providers including those on Long Island the HWCLI-led Long Island Anti-Hunger Taskforce.
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the COO, the NOEP Coordinator performs a wide variety of administrative and programmatic duties essential to the coordination and facilitation of the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program. The NOEP Coordinator plans and implements all aspects of the program in accordance with the contract's work plan and HWCLI's policies and procedures.
Duties:
• Carry out and meet all program goals and requirements set forth by the program contract with Hunger Solutions NY and HWCLI
• Continuously verify requirements and procedures of application process with the appropriate agency
• Provide informational presentations to the public and/or agencies, as necessary
• Develop creative methods to execute state-wide SNAP campaigns locally
• Develop materials relevant to the program and ensure that materials are current and up-to-date
• Plan and execute outreach through traditional and nontraditional outlets to potentially eligible individuals and the community at large, including local community-based agencies, schools, faith-based agencies, media, etc.
• In community based settings, Conduct SNAP eligibility pre-screening, application assistance, assistance obtaining application verification documents and application follow-up services
• Collaborate with other NOEP Coordinators and other direct service staff at HWCLI and other partner agencies
• Prepare and submit appropriate reports as required or requested by program contract and supervisor
• Attend local, regional and state meetings as necessary and relevant to program goals
• Actively participate in HWCLI's Anti-Hunger Taskforce meetings
• Troubleshoot any unresolved issues of clients and local Department of Social Services (DSS) SNAP Unit
Qualifications, Requirements and Experience:
• Minimum bachelor degree required
• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively, display leadership and organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple tasks

Additionally, the Dietitian interacts with the sales team in the development and implementation of marketing strategies to promote the home nutrition support program. The Registered Dietitian supports a single facility.
Leader of the multidisciplinary nutrition support team to provide safe, comprehensive nutrition support services to home parenteral and enteral nutrition support patients. Performs comprehensive nutrition assessments, develops and implements nutrition care plans and provides nutrition education and guidance to patients, caregivers and clinical staff. Maintains a cohesive relationship with all clinical staff, as well as reimbursement and support staff, to maximize the effectiveness of the office's home nutrition support program. Works closely with clinical managers (Pharmacist and Nurse) to ensure nutrition support competence, compliance with policy and cost effectiveness. Identifies areas for operational or clinical improvement. Involved in new employee orientation, on-going continuing education and training of nutrition support clinicians and office staff.
Responsible for coordinating with management in the development and oversight of the nutrition program business plan, supporting sales activities and maintaining account relationships. Works closely with office and regional sales managers to ensure appropriate market penetration of the nutrition program. Provides sales support through joint sales calls, presentations to key accounts, involvement in strategic sales planning and acts as a clinical/sales liaison to nutrition support physicians, nutrition support teams, customers and internal staff.

Job Requirements

• Registration with Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and license / certification in the state of residence, as appropriate with at least 1 year work experience with enteral and parenteral nutrition support, (not including internship).
• Current CPR training required upon 60-90 days of hiring.
• Access to a reliable means of transportation which will enable the incumbents to make home visits to treat/attend to their patients and travel between offices as needed. If such means of transportation would include a personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license and a proof of insurance would be required.
• Experience building and maintaining relationships within a team.
• Basic level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: opening a document, cutting, pasting and aligning text, selecting font type and size, changing margins and column width, sorting, inserting bullets, pictures and dates, using find and replace, undo, spell check, track changes, review pane and/or print functions).
