Theresa Lang Community and Student Center, 55 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011

Sustainapalooza is a two-day gathering at which student leaders and young alumni from around the region will exchange visions for a more just and resilient urban environment.

Attendees of Sustainapalooza will discuss current events, present projects, and hear strategies and advice from experts for finding work in their field. They will also prepare and eat meals together. The hope is to build a regional network of young activists committed to urban sustainability and environmental justice.

On Friday, April 11, participants will meet in the Lang Cafe at 65 West 11th Street to prepare a collective meal. Cooking will take place from 4:00-7:00 and dinner will be had at 7:00.

On Saturday, April 12, attendees will reconvene for lunch and a keynote address by Hunter Lovins, followed by a series of themed workshops, performances and presentations. 'Flash’ performances and presentations from undergraduates, graduate students and young alumni will be short, provocative, and idea-rich and last no more than 5 minutes. At the end of the day, a small amount of funding/seed money will be disbursed, by popular vote, to particularly worthy projects with demonstrated need.

Workshops will provide participants a platform to share and discuss campaigns, efforts, and strategies—both triumphant and not—and goals for the future on topics like fossil fuel divestment, food & waste, water & climate change, the arts as engagement, biodiversity in an era of monoculture, underpinnings of environmental justice, etc. A reception will follow.

Please RSVP via Eventbrite or email [log in to unmask] if you wish to attend.
