The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences offers a volunteer opportunity to gain research experience in the behavioral issues related to cancer. The research volunteer would be a valued team
member for a study that examines tobacco cessation intervention practices among dental care providers in New York City. The volunteer would be responsible for collecting data from dental patients and dental care providers, recording and managing data, cleaning
data sets, and running basic analyses. Volunteers would also have the opportunity to use the study data as part of their Capstone project.
Good time management, organizational and communication skills are essential. Computer skills are desirable including experience with word processing, SPSS or SAS and Microsoft Excel. The volunteer must be available to work on the study approximately 7-10 hours
a week.
This placement provides an excellent opportunity for research career development in a healthcare setting through the development of public health research skills applicable to all areas of research. Opportunities to attend Departmental didactic seminars will
also be available.
