The Primary Care Information Project at the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is seeking a part-time consultant to providing training and technical assistance to community-based organizations running blood pressure monitoring sessions and lifestyle counseling. Training will be based on the “Keep on Track” Volunteer Blood Pressure Monitoring protocol (VBPM) through which volunteers are trained on:

·        How to measure blood pressure and identify high readings

·        Privacy and security of blood pressure monitoring

·        How to deliver simple health education messages around hypertension

·        How to keep track of blood pressure readings using either a paper or web-based tracking system

 

The program currently operates primarily in East and Central Brooklyn, the South Bronx, and East/Central Harlem. Programs in faith-based organizations operate in the evenings or on weekends and require trainings and site visit during non-business hours. The consultant must be available during non-business hours for trainings and site visits.

 

Responsibilities of part-time consultant include 1) performing periodic quality assurance site visits and providing technical assistance to participating sites, 2) providing ongoing and as-needed booster trainings to sites, and 3) recruiting new sites for participation. In addition, the consultant will attend training on how to implement the Keep on Track protocol.

 

An ideal candidate has:

·        familiarity with cardiovascular health

·        experience leading trainings or workshops

·        extensive experience with community or faith-based organizations

·        ability to work independently.

 

The consultant must be organized, detail-oriented and highly reliable.

Spanish speaking ability, and strong computer skills are preferred, but not required. Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends are a must.

 

This is a paid consultant opportunity – not an internship! The consultant will be compensated at a competitive rate based on deliverables provided.
