POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Shop Healthy Program is seeking an intern to work part-time (20 hours per week) for a minimum of 9 months to 1 year. The objective of Shop Healthy to increase access to healthy food and engage residents and organizations to support sustainable food retail change in their community. The program, launched in 2012, grew out of years of intensive work with more than 1,000 retailers in high-need communities of the city, and targets multiple types of food retailers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Partner with youth development organizations to adopt a shop and other adopt-a-shop opportunities
• Provide technical assistance to corner stores and supermarkets
• Visit stores and disseminate information about promotion of healthy products
• Assist community engagement specialist with presentations to community groups
• Assist with delivering incentives to stores and conducting inventory of incentives
• Data entry

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Candidate must have completed his/her first semester in a Master’s level program.
• Candidate should be detail-oriented, organized and creative.
• Spanish speaking preferred
• Strong communication skills and experience presenting to medium size audiences

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Seeking a Masters of Public Health (MPH) student with a special interest in working with Latino/a Populations (specifically Puerto Rican communities)

Background: The Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) recently awarded Harlem United a 5-year grant under its Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) portfolio focused on developing Culturally Appropriate Interventions for Outreach, Access and Retention among Latino/a Populations. The goal of the project is to develop and conduct a health promoter training, provide targeted outreach to HIV positive individuals, provide linkage to care and patient navigation services, and build effective support systems (education, social activities, and supportive counseling) to increase retention in care outcomes. Our new program, Cúrate, will target HIV positive individuals from Puerto Rico, with a history of substance use, who are newly diagnosed or out of routine medical care, and have recently immigrated to New York City. As part of our Access to Care (ATC) services continuum, this project will work closely with our Community Outreach, Testing Services and other HU programs to identify and refer appropriate individuals into services, while building on the “best practices” identified through our collaboration with Health Services and external agencies, aimed at improving client health outcomes. The program will focus on HIV stigma reduction and reducing barriers to care for Latino/a populations.

Overview: The intern will work closely with a Peer Trainer/Supervisor, Patient Navigation Program Coordinator, Outreach Supervisor, Patient Navigator, peers, and program participants/client to support all aspects of the program intervention including assisting with training preparation and implementation, outreach and recruitment, linkage to care activities, and coordination of health education activities. They will work closely with the Managing Director and Director of Program Evaluation to support evaluation, monitoring, quality improvement, data collection, and data analysis activities. This individual will assist with community outreach and engagement activities, targeting Latino/a businesses, organizations, institutions, and communities, specifically working to engage Puerto Rican individuals affected by HIV/AIDS into the program.

Internship Description: ATC is seeking an MPH intern to work with the Cúrate team located in Prevention services at 290 Lenox Ave. The following duties are expected of the intern:
• Assist with recruitment, preparation and implementation of peer Health Promoter trainings.
• Assist the team with conducting initial screenings, service orientation, and referrals to services throughout Harlem United and in the community.
• Assist the team with connecting clients to medical care and supportive services including mental health/psych services, drug treatment/detox, medical coverage and enrollments, harm reduction programs, HIV/STI testing services, and more.
• Appropriately refer clients to community programs; adjust referrals as needed based on changes in outcomes and/or client needs.

Educational Requirements:
At minimum, a Bachelor’s in public health, social or human services, or social work, and two years of related work experience. Must be currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health with a focus on epidemiology, community health care, or related area, and have a special interest in working with Latino/a populations (specifically Puerto Rican communities).

Job description

The vice president will provide strategic counsel and leadership on branded and commodity food/nutrition clientele. This individual will oversee, inspire and mentor multiple client teams to generate outstanding outcomes that expand client relationships and award-winning results. The position also will be primarily responsible for business development in these categories, so demonstrated ability to attract and retain national and international clientele is important. Extensive knowledge/background in food and nutrition categories, including industry/market trends, regulatory environment, etc. is required. Advanced nutrition-related degree is a plus.

Candidates must have a minimum of 15+ years of consumer/commodity foods experience, plus the following skills:

Knowledge of retail, food service, branded foods and grower/producer categories
Manage several teams
Extensive business development
Exemplary communication and presentation skills
Financial monitoring and budgeting expertise
