The Diabetes Core Curriculum Workshop(tm)
Overview
The Diabetes Core Curriculum Workshop(tm) (DCCW(tm)) is a unique four day course designed
to prepare health professionals for the Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) examination or
to provide the requisite continuing education credits for renewal of the CDE® or BC-ADM
credentials. It also prepares health professionals in the principles and skills required for
chronic disease management.
The curriculum includes content areas of the Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®)
examination and the American Diabetes Association's National Standards for Diabetes Self-
Management Education (DSME) programs.
Target Audience
Nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, dietitians and master certified
health education specialists.
Accreditation
CME
Winthrop University Hospital is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing
Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
AMA Credit Designation Statement
Winthrop University Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 30.0 AMA PRA
Category 1 Credit(s)(tm). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their
participation in the activity.
Nursing
Winthrop University Hospital is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New
Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing
Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Accredited status does not imply endorsement by NJSNA, Winthrop University Hospital, or ANCC

Pharmacy
St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Completion of this
program provides a total of 30 hours of continuing education credit. Partial credit is not available.
In order to obtain credit, participants must complete required continuing education forms and submit
them on site. The Universal Activity Number assigned to this program is: 0043-9999-13-048-L01P.
Statements of credit are mailed to participants and credits are posted to CPE Monitor within six
weeks of completion of the program.
Dietitian
This program has been approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for 30 CPEUs.
Master Certified Health Education Specialist
Application for CHES/MCHES Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH) has been
made to the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC)
Certified Diabetes Educators® (CDE®)
To satisfy the requirement for renewal of certification by continuing education for the National
Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes
related and approved by a provider on the NCBDE List of Recognized Providers (www.ncbde.org).
NCBDE does not approve continuing education. Winthrop University Hospital is accredited by AMA
which is on the NCBDE List of Recognized Providers.
Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM)
All certification renewal candidates are required to complete 75 continuing education hours.
At least 50% (37.5 hours) of the 75 continuing education hours must be formally approved
continuing education hours. The DCCW(tm) meets the criteria for offering formally approved
continuing education hours.
The terms Certified Diabetes Educator® and CDE® are registered marks owned by NCBDE.
The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators does not develop, review, approve or
participate in any way in programs or courses designed for study or review for the certification
examination. The DCCW(tm) is not affiliated with NCBDE.
