Assistant Professor – Public Health Nutrition/Community Nutrition

The Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Public Health Nutrition/Community Nutrition position beginning Fall 2015.

Responsibilities include:

-        Teaching undergraduate courses such as undergraduate level Community Nutrition Education, Fundamentals of Nutrition, Life Cycle Nutrition, Geriatric Nutrition and graduate level Community Nutrition and Geriatric Nutrition.

-        Development of courses in Public Health Nutrition in collaboration with the MPH faculty is a priority.

-        Advisement, and curriculum development in undergraduate and graduate programs in Nutrition, and development of a well-funded research program and mentoring of students and interns as part of the team are required.

The Health and Nutrition Sciences Department is part of the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences.  The department offers a Didactic Program in Dietetics and a Dietetic Internship accredited by ACEND, the accrediting body of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, an MS program in Nutrition, and an MA Program in Community Health and in Thanatology.

In addition, the Department's MPH Program is shared with the CUNY School of Public Health (SPH).  Department faculty can participate in the CEPH-accredited SPH which also offers DPH degrees at the CUNY Graduate Center.

QUALIFICATIONS


-        Ph.D. in Nutrition or related discipline preferred or DPH with expertise in Nutrition, as well as a record of publication and funding.

-        The Registered Dietitian (RD) credential and several years of practice experience as an RD is desirable, but not required.

-        Strong background in urban public health nutrition, including nutrition policy, community nutrition, food systems and sustainability.

-        Expertise in geriatric nutrition is an asset.

-        Evidence of cultural competency in teaching and practice.

-        A defined plan for developing an independent research program that will generate external funding and provide research training for undergraduate and graduate students is required,

-        Evidence of significant and appropriate teaching experience.
