Chair of Human Services Programs and Associate or Full Professor

Metropolitan College of New York, a non-profit, regionally accredited college offering associate, bachelor's and master's degrees, and located in the Soho/Tribeca section of Manhattan, seeks a Chairperson to provide innovative academic and administrative leadership for the Associate and Bachelor of Professional Studies degrees in Human Services.

“The field of Human Services is broadly defined, uniquely approaching the objective of meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary  knowledge  base, focusing  on prevention as wellas remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment to improving the overall quality of life of service populations” (National Organization of Human Services). The field encompasses such disciplines as: Counseling, Education, Public Health, History, Law, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Theology, Social Work, and Sociology.

Reporting to the Dean of the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education, the Chair of Human Services will oversee teaching and scholarship, fiscal affairs and other administrative business. He/she will recruit, assign duties to, mentor and evaluate adjunct faculty, and encourage faculty leadership and professional development. In addition, the Chair will teach, provide long-term direction and vision for the programs, oversee curriculum development and evaluation, plan course offerings, and actively promote the program through outreach to external constituencies. Preferred qualifications include a doctorate in a relevant field; significant experience in developing curriculum and supervising faculty in higher education; knowledge of learning theories for adult students; experience with outcomes assessment; and the ability to work successfully within a diverse cultural setting. Direct experience working with or in social service provider organizations and knowledge of distance learning educational models is desirable.
