Subject: Fwd: TEN Community Long-Term Volunteer Program : List of Opportunities in NYC

Hello Kim,

I'm forwarding a list of volunteer opportunities with groups across New York City affiliated with the Food Bank's TEN (Tiered Engagement Network) program. This is a great opportunity for students who want to volunteer with a local organization or do some community service hours.

Feel free to forward to the listserv or other networks you find appropriate.

Best,

Diana

Good Morning Diana Johnson,

I hope all is well with you with you as the semester at Hunter College has been underway. When I met with Tia she mentioned that you were attending the Harlem TEN Regroup and would learn about how Food Bank for New York City’s TEN team is working with our sites to compile a document listing of all the Volunteer/ Internship opportunities in New York.

We have just received the first round of hosting TEN sites and their volunteer/internship opportunities. Attached is a document with each organization’s name, site supervisor contact information, number of open positions and a description of each position.

The document will be updated and emailed out on a monthly basis.

Here is how the process works:

1.       Students who are interested in finding volunteer/internship opportunities speak with you

2.        Send them the excel document of opportunities in the TEN Network

3.       The student, if interested in some of the positions with our sites, contacts the organization’s supervisor and sets up an interview

4.       The student will discuss with the site supervisor course credit, learning agreements, projects etc.

5.       If the student chooses an organization please send an email with their information to Noelle Meyers-Powell [log in to unmask]

If there are many responses, you can instead send me an email at the end of the month with the total number of students volunteering/ interning. (The reasoning here, is that we want to keep track of how many students we help connect to these types of opportunities. Each month I will email an updated list of positions available for your students.)

6.       In January, we will host an orientation for college students recruited to work at the TEN sites. We will orient them to Food Bank for New York City, the TEN Program and our expectations.

If students start at an organization before January, we will provide them with an individual orientation onsite and they are still welcome to attend the larger orientation.

I am very excited to be working with Hunter College and for the opportunity to have some of your passionate and driven students interning at our TEN Sites. I believe your students will help not only strengthen the abilities of these organizations, but will also have an awesome learning experience in the communities they will engage.

If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email or give me a call. It was a pleasure meeting with you and I look forward to working with you, in this initiative as the months proceed.

Have a wonderful day.

Noelle Meyers-Powell
