POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

Medical Officers

Provide medical expertise to provide clinical, epidemiologic, and technical consultation and guidance in response to reports of illness in travelers, collaborating with local partners to assist in applying appropriate public health disposition.  Also provide medical expertise in conducting entry screening procedures that mitigate public health risk from travelers coming from Ebola-affected countries. This service will include assessing travelers’ Ebola exposure risk by using CDC-developed guidance for establishing and identifying risk currently published on CDC Website (www.cdc.gov<http://www.cdc.gov>).  Physicians will consult with CDC senior physicians in Atlanta during this process.

Physicians shall live or be permanently stationed within 30 mile radius  of the airport which they are assigned and be able to respond on-site within 45 minutes of the initial request. The physicians shall have a current and active medical license to practice medicine in a state or territory of the United States.  It is preferable that the license be for the state within the airport resides. Physicians must also be able to work while wearing personal protective equipment such as an N-95 respirator.

Social Workers

Social workers shall engage travelers after they receive the C.A.R.E. Kit provided by the Government.  Immediately after processing by Customs and Border Protection staff, the SW will provide basic Ebola education, orient travelers to the active monitoring program and CARE Kit, address concerns, answer questions, and encourage participation in active monitoring, register travelers for the CARE hotline depending on the destination state, provide a cell phone to the traveler, review, input data, and verify contact information.

For the team members, the education level minimum is a bachelor degree in health education, health counseling, social work, or related field.  Master level education is preferred.  For the team lead positions should have 5 years of experience of management or supervision in addition to the qualifications identified for the team members.  Each station should have at least one Social Worker that is fluent in French at an expert level and available to be consulted as needed.

For all social workers reference within this section, each member must be a certified social worker with an unrestricted license in a state or territory of the United States.
