New Year's Resolutions
We hope you're having a happy New Year and look forward to seeing you at the Academy soon. If getting the most out of your Academy Membership isn't one of your New Year's resolutions we encourage adding it to your list and visiting our Member Center to get a refresher on Membership benefits. You can also help us spread the word about the Academy. One way to do this is to purchase a Gift Membership for a colleague, friend or family member. There's still a few days left in our New Year's promotion—submit your Gift Membership request by January 15 and receive a 20% discount!

- Call for volunteers! The Academy is partnering with Rocket21 on the Dream Big H2O challenge and we are looking for volunteers with expertise in water, sustainability, environmental science, technology, and/or innovation to serve as mentors to the Challenge Team and students. New and Newsworthy Events & Publications
- Join us on Thursday, February 12, for Perspectives in STEM, an evening with Harvard University's Dr. Cherry Murray who will be discussing her illustrious career in Physics. This event is part of the New York Women in STEM event series.
- Machine Learning, a branch of artificial intelligence, involves the development of mathematical algorithms that can "learn" from specific data sets in order to make predictions. The 9th Annual Machine Learning Symposium on March 13 will feature keynotes on deep learning models, whose applications include speech and object recognition, natural language processing, and information retrieval. The deadline for submitting abstracts is January 28.
- On March 26-27, The Sackler Institute for Nutrition Science and the Nestlé Nutrition Institute will gather leading nutrition and dementia researchers and practitioners to discuss The Role of Nutrition in Dementia Prevention and Management. Register before March 5th to receive an early bird discount.
- Recent eBriefings: New Frontiers in the Neurobiology of Mental Illness explores the translation of neuroscience breakthroughs into therapies for mental illness. And Early-life Influences on Obesity: Pre-conception to Adolescence examines obesity risks that occur in early life and considers how to prevent and treat diabetes, obesity, and related diseases.
- Recent Annals Reports on head and neck cancers and linkages between physical and psychiatric homeostasis are now available online.
