Senior Nutrition Scientist, Nutrition Action Healthletter – Full Time
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit health-advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., that focuses on nutrition and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation's largest-circulation nutrition newsletter. CSPI’s three main goals are to: provide valuable, objective information to the public and policymakers; represent citizens' interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies; and ensure that advances in science are used for the public's good. CSPI is supported largely by the 900,000 U.S. and Canadian subscribers to its Nutrition Action Healthletter, individual donors, and foundation grants.

The Senior Nutrition Scientist’s top priority is suggesting, researching, and writing articles forNutrition Action Healthletter (NAH). This position is located in CSPI's Washington, D.C. office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Research and write articles for Nutrition Action by evaluating studies and interviewing authorities and organizations.
Propose compelling article ideas for Nutrition Action.
Serve as media spokesperson on diet and health issues.
Serve as information resource on diet and health matters to CSPI members, staff, and general public.
Assist in preparing comments, petitions, letters, and other documents to influence policy makers.
Possibly help research and write consumer-friendly booklets.

Qualifications
Passion for CSPI’s advocacy and educational mission.
Doctoral degree in nutrition, epidemiology, or public health (diet and health focus) is required, and at least eight years’ experience in evaluating research on diet and health.
Demonstrated understanding of complex nutrition issues; ability to draw conclusions, and provide responsible advice to consumers.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak effectively; interview scientists to gather data; and serve as media spokesperson on diet and health issues.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and frequent deadlines.
