NYLPI is hiring a staff attorney in their Health Justice program. The Staff Attorney will take on existing advocacy efforts and have ample opportunity to lead and collaborate on new campaigns. He or she will engage in legal, policy, and administrative advocacy work, as well as community organizing and outreach, coalition-building, and media work. In particular, the Staff Attorney will lead a campaign to provide direct immigration representation to clients with serious medical needs. He or she will also help to develop a broader policy agenda around access to healthcare for undocumented New Yorkers and will represent NYLPI in various coalitions and tables aimed at addressing this issue. The Haven Project: Reporting Back to Mott Haven—January 28th
The New York Restoration Project (NYRP) is holding a follow up meeting about the Randall’s Island Connector and improving open spaces. The new plans for the neighborhood will incorporate the ideas and feedback given at the last meeting. Artful Health—January 29th
Come to the Bronx Museum<http://www.BronxMuseum.org> for a screening of excerpts from The Weight of the Nation, an HBO documentary series addressing the national obesity epidemic, accompanied by a series of family-friendly health and food-related activities. A number of community partners will be present, including The Bronx Health Link, Morrisania D&TC WIC Program, and Transportation Alternatives, who will offer hand outs and more information on developing healthy eating habits and staying active. Community Board Applications—Application Due January 30th
Community boards are tasked with being the independent and representative voices of their communities—the most grass-roots form of local government. The boards are pivotal in shaping their communities and work to enhance and preserve the character of the city’s many unique neighborhoods. Each community board has a budget, a district manager and staff, and has three distinct responsibilities:


  *   Monitoring the delivery of city services such as sanitation and street maintenance;
  *   Planning and reviewing land use applications including zoning changes; and
  *   Making recommendations for each year’s city budget.

Grow To Learn Mini Grants—Due February 11th
GrowNYC, NYC Department of Education and NYC Park's GreenThumb Division, is happy to announce that Grow to Learn is currently accepting applications for Mini-Grants of $500 to $2,000 to start or expand a learning garden program at NYC public and charter schools. Spring 2015 Toolbox for Education Grants—Applications Due February 13th
The purpose of this grant program is to fund improvements at public schools in the United States. Projects should provide the tools that help educators and parent groups through today's challenging times efficiently while providing the greatest impact. Grants up to $5,000 will be awarded to select applicants, with a priority placed on addressing basic needs. K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations located in communities where Lowe’s operates stores and distribution centers are eligible to apply.
