Position Description:

For eight to ten weeks, from June 29th  through the end of August, SCIP offers a combination of 12 hours per week of direct service to patients, lectures by physicians and other health care professionals, a variety of shadowing experiences, and reading and writing assignments. Participants will be required to attend one general orientation, either on May 21st or June 10th. Additional required trainings for special placements and some shadowing will be scheduled beginning June 15th.

 

SCIP Activities

·         Interact with and assist patients to improve their hospital experience;

·         Support nurses and other staff to improve the quality of patient care;

·         Attend lectures by health practitioners designed specifically for our SCIP group;

·         Shadow physicians and other practitioners in various specialties;

·         Complete selected reading and writing assignments.

 

Some of the practitioners who have shared their expertise with our students in the past include specialists in neurosurgery, pediatrics, cardiology, gerontology, neonatology, and dermatology.

 

Qualifications:
We are looking for committed and well-rounded college students, preferably completing sophomore or junior year, in pre-health career and nursing programs who are interested in an intense hospital experience that will enrich both their current education and their professional future. 


To participate in this program, students are required to commit to a minimum of eight to ten consecutive weeks, twelve hours per week.  The program provides placements seven days a week from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. In addition, students will shadow health professionals, attend lectures, and complete writing assignments.

If you are selected for an interview, you will then be required to submit a transcript and a resume. Deadline for applications is Monday, March 2, 2015.
