Good Evening Kim!

I am not sure if you remember me... I know it has been a while since I last emailed you... I am currently a doctoral candidate in Nutrition at New York University and am reaching out to you today via email in hopes that I might be able to advertise our research study to Hunter Students? In the fall, you sent out an email to some of the Hunter students in the MPH program. We had such a great response from your students! I really enjoyed working with some of the students and was happy they could participate. We are still recruiting for our study. We are getting close to the end but still need more participants. We had such a great response from Hunter Students last semester, I was wondering if it would be possible to send out the announcement on the listsev one more time?

I know it has been a while since we talked, but in brief, for this study, we are looking for participants with moderate or severe acne. The participants will be randomized to the control group, in which they continue to follow their usual diet, or the intervention in which they will follow a special eating plan. The participants randomized to the special eating plan (which honestly, is similar to a healthy diet) will receive some foods to help them follow the eating plan. Both groups will have body composition, a fasting blood draw (to measure glucose, insulin and hormonal markers of acne), and two food records. Each participant will receive their individual results and $50 after their last study visit. We will also provide the special eating plan information and education to the group that continues to follow their usual diet after the study is over.

I made a brief announcement which describes our study and pasted it below... By any chance, would it be possible to send out the announcement to your students? We would love to have them participate.

Thank you!

Sincerely
Jennifer Burris

Dear Kim,

Good Morning! I am not sure if you remember me, but I am a doctoral candidate in Nutrition at NYU? It took a little longer than we anticipated but we are finally starting our next study! We has such an awesome response from your students during our last study, I was wondering if might be possible to send out a brief message on our current study? This study is a little longer, but it is a similar topic. We are still looking at the relationship between eating patterns and skin. For this study, we are looking for participants with moderate or severe acne. The participants will be randomized to the control group, in which they continue to follow their usual diet, or the intervention in which they will follow a special eating plan. We will also provide the diet information to the group that continues to follow their usual diet after the study is over.

I made a brief announcement which describes our study and pasted it below... By any chance, would it be possible to send out the announcement to your students? We would love to have them participate.

Thank you!

Hello,

Wonderful news! I was very excited to get your email! We are almost finished recruiting for this study, but if the response is good and the students are interested, we have a second (similar) study in the Fall. But I am SO happy to just start with this one. I put together a short little paragraph on our study... Will this work okay?

Thank you!!! I really appreciate your help and the help of the Hunter List Serv!

Sincerely

Subject: Possible Posting to Hunter List Serv

Good Morning

My name is Jennifer Burris and I am currently a doctoral candidate in Nutrition at New York University. I am working on my dissertation research and a colleague in our department recently suggested your listserv. I am reaching out to you today via email in hopes that I might be able to advertise our research study to Hunter Students?

In brief - we are investigating the relationship between eating patterns and acne. We are hoping to recruit participants with and without acne. The entire study will consist of two study visits, both lasting less than 1 hour. Each visit will be conducted at the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at NYU. During the study we will be asking participants to fill out a food record and complete a short questionnaire on skin and food beliefs. We will also measure height, weight, waist circumference, body composition, and take a fasting blood draw (about 30 mL or 1 T of blood). We will also take a picture of the participants face, which will be destroyed after the dermatologist categorizes the participant's acne or no acne. Each participant will receive a copy of their individual results as well as a $25 incentive as a thank you for participating in our study. Our goal was to recruit 60 participants. We are almost at our goal! We are only looking for a few more students and thought some of the students at Hunter College might be interested?

The study already has IRB approval from NYU. I would be happy to provide you with documentation including a copy of the IRB approval, study flyers, study proposal, or methods.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Burris
