Organization:             New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene – Strategic Initiatives Program, Healthy Eating and Active Living Unit

 

 

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) has pioneered innovative work on trans fat, calorie labeling, and nutrition standards. The Strategic Initiatives Program within the Healthy Eating and Active Living unit at the NYC Health Department develops new models for serving healthful food in a range of venues, including but not limited to schools, hospitals, distributors and restaurants. Leading the National Salt Reduction Initiative, MenuStat, GoodChoice, NYC Food Standards and developing innovative approaches to improving the food environment are key programmatic activities.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Strategic Initiatives Program is seeking interns to perform data collection and entry as part of a nutrition project. This is an opportunity to work on a groundbreaking food and nutrition initiative that informs public health research and policy nationwide.  NYC Health Department internships are an excellent way to develop public health skills and work on projects that are applicable to job opportunities in the future.

 

The internship begins May 2015 or earlier.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Candidate should be detail-oriented, organized, and have strong communication skills.

·         Candidate with data entry experience and an interest in nutrition, evaluation, public policy or public health is preferred.

·         Candidate should be available to work at least 21 hours per week at Health Department’s main office in Long Island City, Queens.
