I am very excited to announce the Root Cause Collective's First Conference on Social Justice, April 17th, from 4:30 - 9:30 pm, at Silberman. The theme of the conference is "Black Lives Matter and Public Health,"
and NYC DOHMH Commissioner Mary Basset will give the inaugural keynote address. The goal of the evening is to "focus our collective and individual capacities to learn, reflect and contribute to public health’s role in Black Lives Matter".
Admission is free (see registration information below) and includes dinner.
The Root Cause Collective is a student run organization which meets regularly at the Silberman building. Inspired by Dr. Lynn Robert's class on Community Organizing and Development
for Health, they organized themselves, applied for and received recognition as a student club, and have been engaged in activities at the public health/social justice intersection in both the community and the school. They welcome public health students from
all campuses, from all porgrams, and at all levels (BS, MPH, DPH).
Root Cause has organized this conference and has engaged in other activies to support both the community and the school.
The students wanted to make sure that you knew that this is an inclusive event and
everyone in the SPH community is welcome.
