Position Description:

Dr. Melanie Jay (Department of Medicine, NYU School of Medicine) is seeking highly motivated research interns to assist with a clinical research project on the impact of antibiotic exposure on the human microbiome in relation to the development of obesity. As part of this longitudinal, NIH-funded study, we are following babies throughout early childhood to observe how antibiotic exposure is reflected in changes in gastrointestinal bacteria over time.

Research interns will primarily be responsible for sample collections from study subjects at various locations in the NYC metro area, and will thus be selected for based on organizational and interpersonal skills as well as flexibility. Interns will also assist with a variety of study tasks, including preparation of administrative paperwork and data entry and management. Interns will attend regularly scheduled team meetings where they will present research articles relevant to microbiome development and the relationship between antibiotics and obesity. In addition, interns will be offered opportunities to attend lab meetings and guest lectures by premier researchers offered by the NYU School of Medicine, and may participate in abstract and manuscript preparation or presentation. Future opportunities in clinical or lab research will also be explored upon completion of the internship.
