Project BRIEF, an HIV testing, counseling, and research program based at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, is seeking applicants for the position of a Public Health Advocate. This internship offers students a direct, clinical experience working with Bronx patients and lasts over the summer. The position will work in the Emergency Department and Inpatient Departments of Jacobi Medical Center, North Central Bronx Hospital to perform the following duties:

Primary Responsibilities:

  *   Recruitment of patients for rapid HIV and HCV testing
  *   HIV prevention counseling and education for all patients tested for HIV.
  *   Database management for the BRIEF program and any other research studies done on the program.
  *   Responsible for data entry, partner notification and quality improvement efforts.
  *   Participation in focus group and individual interviewing of patients for program enhancement
  *   Recruitment of patients for various research initiatives
  *   Assist program leaders in grant preparation
  *   Assist program leaders in manuscript preparation and development
  *   Preparation of research posters and presentations

Organizational Relationships:

  *   Reports to the Program Manager and Leadership Physicians of Project BRIEF
  *   Works collaboratively with other PHAs/Client Navigators & Interns affiliated with Project BRIEF.

Previous employees of Project BRIEF have successfully moved on to pursue degrees in medicine (M.D.) and public health (MPH).
