Narrative Medicine

June 8-12, 2015

Narrative Medicine isn’t just for people who enjoy book clubs. In fact, Narrative Medicine is for anybody who wants to improve their clinical communication skills and learn effective techniques for relating to patients and their experiences. And it’s for physicians and students, such as you, who are interested in taking some time to reflect on the meaning of your work in the caring profession.

The AMSA/Columbia Summer Institute in Narrative Medicine, June 8-12, is a five day immersive experience in Narrative Medicine and Medical Humanities. You’ll explore the intersections of communication, hearing and telling stories, reflective practices, writing, and the visual arts to increase your knowledge and skills in providing compassionate, empathetic, and empowering care and patient advocacy through deep connections with your patients, your colleagues, and yourself. Check out the schedule for more information.

Held at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City, you’ll have access to the leading educators, researchers, and practitioners of Narrative Medicine and the Medical Humanities, including the founder of Narrative Medicine, Rita Charon, MD, PhD. Join medical students, pre-health students, and students from the many health professions for the Institute and build your network of supporters and collaborators who will inspire, challenge, and energize you.

Everyone has a story to tell. Let’s learn to tell them, together.

Reserve your spot today in the Narrative Medicine Institute. Registration closes Sunday, May 31, 2015.
