Healthy Schools NY Resources

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has launched a new ‘Healthy Schools Environments’ feature highlighting RWJF-funded research showing that healthier school meals and snacks can help improve kids’ diets and may help reduce obesity, as well as that increased physical activity for students improves health and academic achievement. The site includes the latest studies and analyses from leading research institutions, school success stories, and info-graphics. Please take a look and share with your school community!

Active Design Toolkit for Schools

As part of the Partnership for a Healthier New York City, Bronx Health REACH is excited to release the Active Design Toolkit for Schools. This toolkit provides ideas and resources to incorporate active design into schools in an effort to promote physical activity and healthy eating. Many of the ideas presented are simple, but have immense potential to improve the overall success, health, and well-being of our City’s students. You can download a copy of the Active Design Toolkit for Schools at The Partnership for a Healthier New York City site. Please feel free to contact Emily Oppenheimer for any questions about the Toolkit or Active Design projects: [log in to unmask].

BOKS Before School Activity Program

An initiative of the Reebok Foundation, BOKS provides an opportunity for students in K-5 schools to be physically active before the school day begins. Students will participate in fitness-based activities, play fun, non-competitive games, and learn the benefits of good nutrition. This program has been shown to get kids energized, alert, awake, and has contributed to fewer disciplinary problems and improved confidence. Teachers and community volunteers can be trained to lead the program, and the curriculum is available online for elementary and middle schools in English and Spanish. Please visit the website for more information and to sign up.
