We sincerely encourage every eligible candidate who is interested in the field of medicine to take this opportunity to apply and see what the world of medicine has to offer on an individual level!

For those seeking to move into the medical field, gaining direct access to intimate direct patient care experience can be quite difficult. With health care providers under the constant pressure of liability and malpractice, it is a challenge to find the exposure that really tells the story of who these wonderful people are and what it is that they do. Here at WECAREWoodhull and HHC have been generous enough to provide an unique chance for volunteers to observe doctors, physician's assistants, nurses and all variety of technical specialists at work in the ever-dynamic environment of the hospital's main Emergency Department. In the ED, volunteers are encouraged to get involved with patient care under the guidance of a well-trained and educated staff by: talking to patients, asking questions, assisting and observing physical evaluations, escorting patients, and providing minor support during medical procedures. While volunteers are strictly forbidden from doing any invasive action or procedure, they are always allowed to help providers by such things as retrieving and handing supplies, holding the patient, monitoring vital signs, etc. however, the focus is on closely studying the step-wise process of the intervention. (The do's and don'ts are explained further in the application packet). Each volunteer is invited to work in the ED in the way that they feel benefits them the most; they get out of the program what they put into it. We largely only require that those who are accepted into the program get involved! With that in mind, patient interaction and advocacy is at the heart of our role in the ED and it is the reason the hospital needs volunteers as much as we need the hospital. We are looking for people who are genuinely excited about their future in medicine, who like working with and on people, who enjoy learning and want to experience the world of medicine inside one of the most immersing settings possible. We look forward to hearing from every prospective candidate.

Included with this message is an application packet that contains the application itself along with some addition information and materials that further explain the goals and rules of the program.
