CDC has released an in-depth set of food service guidelines (often called procurement policies) case studies.  Many federal, state and local agencies are adopting food service guidelines (see a map of some of them at http://cspinet.org/images/State%20Map.PNG), which is helping improve access to healthy food across the country.  If your state or locality isn't or if you'd like to strengthen your policy, please contact Tony Ellis at [log in to unmask].

The Food Service Guidelines: Case Studies from States and Communities highlights five case studies of food and beverage guidelines. The case studies provide information on the implementation and evaluation of food service guidelines, along with descriptions of site-specific successes and challenges.  These case studies can help facilitate peer-to-peer learning across states and provide valuable information on how to implement these strategies.

Checkout CDC's Smart Food Choices toolkit (http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/downloads/smart-food-choices-how-to-implement-food-service-guidelines.pdf) for more on how to implement food service guidelines in public facilities.  Also see http://www.cspinet.org/nutritionpolicy/foodstandards.html for resources from CSPI and other NANA members.
