Update on 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
|
Academy Urges Congress to Continue Science-based Development
&
Scope of Dietary
Guidelines for Americans
In advance of the scheduled Congressional
hearing October 7 on the development of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and other leading
health and medical organizations have sent
letters encouraging Congress to avoid an "overreach" regarding scientific evidence in the Dietary Guidelines process and to urge the process
to "continue without interference by Congress."
The October 7th hearing, with Secretaries Burwell (Health and Human Services) and Vilsack (Agriculture) brought into
question the process and scientific review of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The day before the hearing a statement/blog written by both Secretaries, lays
out the position of the U.S. government on inclusion of sustainability
in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Academy DPG Experts Needed
|
The Academy is considering commenting on a number of proposed regulations, regulatory guidance and information/data
collections in the next two months. If you are interested in contributing to the Academy's responses to these regulatory initiatives, please contact Courtney Puidk or
Paula Martin. Many of these information collections are seeking strategies and input for improving research and program structure on the listed topics.
To read more about the proposed rules, click on the links below. The dates noted are the deadline for DPGs to
submit input to the Academy's Regulatory Affairs department. We need to collect comments at least three days prior
to each to allow enough time for the comments to be collected and edited for submission by HEN as a DPG.
