The American Red Cross of Hunter College

Hey Everyone,

I noticed that not everyone was receiving emails, that should be fixed now.

If you have not already. Please respond to this email if you've experienced one of the two issues:

1) it has been over a week and you have not cleared your background check

2) On Volunteer Connections, Under "My Groups", You are listed under "Hunter College High School" instead of "Hunter College"

_____

Brilliant Prep is interested in providing workshops to our members interested in graduate schools. Each workshop would run for about 90 minutes and can be for any of the following graduate entrance exams; MCAT, GRE, GMAT, or LSAT

Please use this link to vote on the workshops you would be most interested in.

There are some seasonal volunteer events beginning this month, below are a few. If you are interested in any, respond to us via email.

Totes for Hope

Your club would collect personal care items and make a care package  for local veterans in need.  Items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, deodorant, combs, washcloths, soap, are acceptable items. They can be travel size or regular size.

The items will go to the Veteran's shelter in Queens and can be dropped off at the Red Cross office so  Anthony D. Incarnato the Regional Program Specialist of Service to the Armed Forces can deliver them.

Holiday Mail for Heroes

Is a program that is continuous, Mr. Incarnato informs us what holidays he wants clubs to write cards.  Right now Mr. Incarnato is collecting thank you cards for Veteran’s Day and the cards will be given to the veterans during the Veterans day parade. I can give you cards and the guidelines . The event is on November 11.

Backpack Program

You and your club would collect backpacks, fill them with school supplies, and distribute them to children who have been impacted by disaster. The only thing you would have to do is coordinate a pickup time for the backpacks with Trent the Regional Associate.

We will have frequent soup kitchen collaborations throughout the season. Although these are collaborations, we will be able to give volunteers hours for attending them. Our first Soup kitchen is this Saturday, October 24th. If you are interested in attending shoot an email to Rubaya (our secretary) at our redcross email so she can put you down. There will be multiple soup kitchens available if you are unable to attend this week. Details about the event this week are below:

EVENT: Distributing Hygiene Kits to Clients of Child Development Support Corporation (CDSC) and Painting Food Pantry

WHEN: Saturday, October 24, 2015; 10:30 AM - 3:30 PM

WHERE:

Child Development Support Corporation

802 Kent Avenue # 804, Brooklyn, NY 11205

WHY: Flu season is approaching! Hygiene kits contain invaluable items for families and we will be helping the CSDC distribute these to hundreds of families in need. In addition, the holiday season is approaching. The food pantry serves over 10,000 families a year and needs to be repainted - painting experience is appreciated, but not required.

# OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: 12

Preference for future volunteers will be given to those who attend this event because we are looking for committed volunteers. If you are interested, please reply to this email ASAP with your name, email, and phone number. Looking forward to hearing from you guys soon!
