The national childhood obesity rate held steady at 17 percent during
2013-14, where it has remained for a decade, while the national adult rate rose from 32 percent to 38 percent over the same time period, according to new data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey program released by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention.
In a statement, Risa-Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
, said that “the nation continues to struggle with an obesity crisis” but also noted the leveling off of the national childhood rate, as well as lower rates among children ages 2-5, “reinforces our confidence that America’s children are moving toward a
healthier weight, and that bodes well for the long term health of our nation.”
