Former US Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders
along with other Black women physicians featured in award-winning documentary producer and author Crystal Emery’s biographical photo essay entitled
“Against All Odds: Celebrating Black Women in Medicine”
on December 1 at 5:00pm at the SEIU Penthouse at 330 W 42nd Street.
Other powerful voices included to discuss and sign books are our very own
ESMA Doctors Lynne Holden, Icilma Fergus, and Aletha Maybank
as well as Barbara Ross-Lee, Ruth Reid-Thornton, Velma Scantlebury- White, Ayanna Poindexter, Jay-Sheree Allen and Donna Mendes. In the words of Dr. Joycelyn Elders, featured in an accompanying film,
“You can’t be what you can’t see.”
The book features more than 100 historical and contemporary Black women doctors.
Event is open to the public at no cost so please feel free to invite mentees, mentors, students, children, and family.
