Description
Hackensack University Medical Center offers an 8 week clinical research program during the summer to outstanding undergraduate, post baccalaureate, and medical students interested in gaining clinical research experience. Examples of previous clinical research track are listed below:

  *   Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics
  *   Rheumatology
  *   Hematology-Oncology
  *   Endocrinology
  *   NICU
The 2016 Summer Clinical Research Program in Pediatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center offers pre-medical and medical students the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor on one or more research projects related to their specific sub-specialty. The primary focus of the volunteer program is clinical research and writing. Each departmental track of the program will grant admission to 1-2 students. These students will have the unique opportunity to join a faculty member in completing an ongoing research project and/or create a new project proposal with his or her mentor's guidance. Research volunteers will also gain valuable insight into the publication process, including opportunities to participate in co-authorship of research projects in peer-reviewed pediatric journals.

While participating in the program, volunteers will be invited and encouraged to attend lectures of interest available through the Department of Pediatrics at The Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital. Weekly lectures on topics pertaining to clinical research process will be provided, at which time students will also be encouraged to discuss their progress and trouble-shoot any issues that come up. There will also be opportunities for students to shadow clinical staff members throughout the program to provide clinical exposure.

Students who are interested in science, medicine, and clinical research are encouraged to apply to the 2016 Summer Clinical Research Program. The program is open to undergraduates, post baccalaureate and medical students. The ideal applicant is a student aspiring to attend a graduate program in medicine with a strong academic record and an interest in pediatrics.
