they fail to steer Americans toward a healthier diet that’s also better for the environment. What’s more, the 2016 edition of the guidelines, like those before it, have Big Food’s fingerprints all over it. We at EWG believe that Americans need clear,

The government’s new guidelines:

Water down evidence on the benefits of a plant-based diet, failing to advise Americans to eat less meat;

Ignore the serious health risks of mercury exposure from consuming certain fish;
-
Do not urge Americans to cut down on soft drink consumption, even though soft drinks are the main source of added sugars in the American diet.
EWG’s Dietary Guidelines dig deeper. They are designed to serve the public interest, not the vested interests of the $1 trillion-a-year food industry.
