The Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) is seeking a full-time development professional to develop and execute the organization's overall fundraising strategy, with the longer term goal of launching a capital campaign to open the world's first large-scale museum
dedicated to the culture, history, science, production, and commerce of food and drink. This is a historic opportunity to build a major cultural institution from the ground up, and make a lasting contribution to food education.
MOFAD is a Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that recently opened its first 5,000 square foot brick-and-mortar home with
Flavor: Making It and Faking It, a multisensory exhibition described by
The New York Times as "not just hands-on, but tongue-on, and nostrils-on." The organization has received a significant amount of press, with
Travel and Leisure noting that "New York City is abuzz about its first Museum of Food and Drink," and
Food and Wine stating that MOFAD's debut was "one of the biggest openings of the year in the food world."
The great potential for this position is only matched by its challenges. MOFAD is still in the start-up phase, with a small but dedicated team of five full-time staff and eight board members. The development professional will be the only staff member fully
dedicated to fundraising, and will have to balance meeting short-term operational funding needs with ensuring the organization's long-term growth. This position will require bold vision, a go-getter attitude, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
with little guidance and limited resources.
The job title for this position is negotiable, depending on the successful candidate's level of experience. This position will report directly to the executive director. Annual compensation will range between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience,
and will be supplemented by merit-based bonuses.
