Job Description for an Undergraduate Nutrition Student

Job type:               2 days per week (Wednesdays and Fridays) - 6+ hours

Mandolean Weight loss and eating disorder center is seeking an undergraduate volunteer. This opportunity is located in a private facility on the Upper East side of Manhattan.  We use an innovative treatment  from Mandometer and Mandolean clinics founded  in Stockholm Sweden in 1993 for eating disorders and obesity.   The main focus of the practice is currently obesity.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to best treat moderate to severely overweight patients.  The behavioral component of the treatment program along with the use of the mandometer, a computerized scale, that tracks each patient’s eating rate together results in both a physiological change and a behavioral change which leads to long term weight control.   This program has statistics that reveal a 75% success rate at 5 year follow ups.

DUTIES:

  *   Sitting in with RD/licensed dietitans to observe and interact with patients  from intake to remission using Mando treatment method, which includes:

     *   Thorough patient eating evaluation before start of treatment
     *   Individualized treatment plan
     *   Eating training using Mandometer biofeedback device
     *   Short-term and long-term goal setting and reward system
     *   Counseling focused on coping skills and behavior modification strategies
     *   Physical activity program with pedometer used to track activity and set goals
     *   Social reconstruction program

·         Schedule patient appointments, make confirmation calls/e-mails, reschedule patients and keep clinic schedule updated

·         Assist with organizing patient records using customized online patient database and binder system

·         Participate in recruiting patients

·         Respond to phone and email inquiries from potential patients and referral sources

·         Assist with general clinic activities, such as ordering meals, keeping the kitchen clean, ordering supplies, filing, faxing, copying materials as needed, answering phones, assist patients when eating at the clinic on the computerized device.

·         Support clinicians with other administrative  duties, as needed



REQUIREMENTS:

·         Must be an undergraduate student majoring in food and nutrition science

·         Proficient with all Microsoft Office programs (including EXCEL)

·         Well organized with attention to details

·         Team player

·         Ability to do telephone recruiting of new patients
