Subject: Improving retail food environment, May 5th, at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET

Hello Everyone:

Please mark your calendars, a call on improving the retail food environment will take place on Thursday, May 5 from 10-11 am Pacific/1-2 pm Eastern. The focus will be on ways to improve the foods available and promoted in retail food stores.

The USDA recently proposed a new rule designed to provide SNAP participants with increased access to healthy foods. The rule would require retailers to offer a wider variety of food choices. This call will provide background for people generally interested in improving retail food environments or commenting on the rule.

· Jessica Almy, senior nutrition policy counsel at Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), will talk about ways to improve the healthfulness of foods, snacks, and beverages sold in retail, particularly at checkout.
