Research Action Workshop on Food and Food Policy in East and Central Harlem Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30 -8:30 pm at the CUNY School of Public Health, 55 West 125th Street, (50 steps from the Number 2 & 3 IRT stop), Room 822, 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, June 1-July 13, 2016. Instructors: Nicholas Freudenberg, Distinguished Professor of Public Health and Director, CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute and Michele Silver, Evaluation Coordinator, CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute. 

 

This course is designed to engage learners in studying and taking action to reduce food insecurity and diet-related diseases in East and Central Harlem and other similar low-income urban communities.  The course will assist participants to design and carry out a research action project that will identify and describe a food problem facing the residents of East or Central Harlem and the assets available to solve it, analyze the policy and other causes of the problem and, with appropriate community and research partners, propose action to solve this problem. Course is open to Masters and doctoral students in public health, sociology, psychology, geography, nutrition, urban planning, social work or related fields.
