Releases for the week of: May 23, 2016 to May 27, 2016 New from USDA's Economic Research Service Topic: Food Markets & Prices Outlook for U.S. Agricultural Trade: May 2016 This report discusses May 2016 USDA forecasts for U.S. agricultural trade in FY 2016. Exports are forecast at $124.5 billion in 2016; imports to reach record high. May 26, 2016 Food Price Outlook The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for food is probably the most widely used indicator of changes in retail food prices. ERS regularly updates food price forecasts for the short-term period. May 25, 2016 Changes in Retail Organic Price Premiums from 2004 to 2010 Of 17 organic food products ERS analyzed, most retail price premiums fluctuated between 2004 and 2010, neither increasing nor decreasing steadily. Only three products–fresh spinach, canned beans, and coffee–showed steady premium decreases. May 24, 2016 Investigating Retail Price Premiums for Organic Foods (Amber Waves feature article) A recent ERS study of 17 commonly purchased organic foods found price premiums for the organic foods relative to their nonorganic counterparts in 2010 ranged from 7 percent for fresh spinach to 82 percent for milk.
