At the Medical School for International Health, classes recently finished and our fourth year students graduated. This
year, 95% of MSIH students matched into residency programs, with a large number of them matching in Primary Care Fields. Residency placements include Georgetown University Hospital, UCLA
Medical Center, Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, the University of Chicago Medical Center and the University of Connecticut Hospital.
For the rest
of the students, the conclusion of classes and exams meant time for reflection, some relaxation, unique summer experiences and preparation for next year. Chelsea Powell, who just finished her first year at the MSIH, reflected on the year in her blog.
I encourage you to read Chelsea's blog, "Memorable
Moments of the First Year." Chelsea comments on some memorable moments and lessons, including:
“If a patient breaks her leg and you put a cast on and discharge her, but she lives on the 7th floor of a walk-up, you did not do your job.”
and
“In this hospital, nothing else matters. Everyone is focused only on how to make the patient better.”
The Medical School for International Health (MSIH) is the only four-year North American-style medical school that incorporates global health coursework into all four years of the medical school curriculum. The MSIH is an English-language track at Ben-Gurion
University and has been affiliated with Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons since inception. MSIH students spend three years in Beer-Sheva, Israel, then go on to conduct fourth-year clinical electives at Columbia University Medical Center,
and at other institutions in the United States and Canada.
The MSIH application for the entering class of 2017 is available on our website and can be accessed using the link: MSIH
