Session Summary: This webinar will acquaint attendees with the clinical benefits of functional laboratory testing in practice. Speaker will showcase tests on amino acids, urine organic acids as well as stool testing markers to illustrate the best use of testing as a clinical tool.

Speaker Bio: Ms. Pollock received a BS degree in biology/life sciences from NC State University and a Master of Science (MS) in clinical nutrition from East Carolina University. Terry was Curator of Education for the NC Aquarium for several years. She then became a research associate on an NIH grant at the University of Texas Medical Branch, creating a chromatography method for detecting glutathione in human milk. She joined Metametrix Clinical Lab for ten years, creating their first medical educator position, presenting at medical conferences, teleconferences and seminars around the US while maintaining a nutrition consulting practice. She served as an editorial reviewer for Alternative Medicine Review for more than 15 years. Beginning in 2000, Terry spent 6 years in university teaching (nutrition and environmental science electives) and corporate wellness consulting. In 2006, Terry returned to Metametrix, as Sr. Clinical Educator for this lab (which merged with Genova Diagnostics, Inc. in 2012). She has co-authored several professional publications. Her professional interests include genetic “optimization” through nutritional biochemistry, sustainable lifestyles, and bioenergetics.

A 50-year old male gastrectomy patient and his wife seeking a trained nutrition professional.
With only basic information from the hospital dietitians (low fat/low sugar diet, and frequent, small meals) we need someone to partner with us, and help the patient learn to eat without a stomach.
We need you to meet with him to make a meal-plan, write up a weekly shopping list, and take one or two weekly trips to Jersey City (one stop from the World Trade Center), to cook/pack weekly meals and snacks for the freezer, as well as staying in touch over the phone through the week to make sure he's on track.
We're guessing a total of 7 hrs per week, but may be more the first couple of weeks and less later, when he finds his feet.

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites applications for a Coordinator of Health Education and Nutrition.

FIT Health Services is an on-campus, comprehensive, health care facility providing medical care, health information and programming for full-time students. The Health Services is staffed by nurse practitioners, physicians, registered nurses, health educator, nutritionist, acupuncturists, massage therapist, medical assistant and administrative staff.  Their primary focus is to promote a holistic approach for care of students through quality primary care and selected specialty services while integrating patient participation, education, and the promotion of health and wellness in keeping with the academic mission of FIT, and the relationship to the wellbeing of the student.

Job Description:
An experienced, energetic and creative Health and Wellness educator who would be responsible for the design, development, implementation and assessment of health and wellness educational program and events sponsored by FIT Health Services.  Reporting to the Director of the Health Center, the person would ensure that the programming was aimed toward improving student awareness and knowledge of health, nutrition and wellness issues.

Primary job responsibilities & duties
Develop a comprehensive, campus-wide health and wellness program that serves the needs of a diverse student population, including but not limited to educational programs (HIV/AIDs, internet addiction, Diabetes, Drug & Alcohol awareness, Stress Relief, STD awareness, tobacco cessation are some examples), health fairs, speakers and workshops;
Responsible for development, coordination and management of nutrition education including ongoing nutrition counseling to students with a variety of health conditions. This includes providing dietary consultations to student and developing individual plans to meet nutritional guidelines.
Communicate with other health care professionals to review student medical charts.
Achieve a high level of program awareness and student faculty/staff participation by presenting at faculty, staff and student group meetings, preparing and distributing written materials, and utilizing all avenues of mass communication available on campus.
Serve as the Health Center liaison to other university and community groups including strong collaborative programming initiatives with other Student Success offices such as Athletics, Student Life, Residential Life, Counseling Center, EOP and Fitable services.
Develop, train and supervise student peer health educators in conjunction with campus wide peer education programs within Student Success.
Conduct frequent assessment of program effectiveness through consistent statistical summaries of participant data and program attendance.
Serve on the Campus Anti-Violence Education group, a subsidiary of the Campus Security Advisory Group.
