This presentation will describe results from a recently published study that examined features in grocery stores shoppers reported motivated them to purchase more healthful foods. Features include common supermarket practices for each of the 4 Ps of marketing: pricing, placement, promotion, and product.

Dr. Latetia Moore is an Epidemiologist in the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She focuses primarily on research and surveillance activities related to the dietary quality of the US population and the spatial allocation of resources across different types of neighborhoods.

Presentation 2
The Nebraska Healthy Food Retail Recognition pilot program: partnerships, measurement, and early lessons learned.
As part of the 1422 grant, Nebraska is piloting a Healthy Food Retail Recognition program in small grocery and convenience stores across the state. The program was developed through partnerships and collaborations among the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Extension, several local Public Health Departments, the Nebraska Grocers Association, and other retail and nutrition stakeholders in the community. This presentation will focus on the partnerships, measurement, and early lessons learned.

Dr. Teresa Smith is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition in Omaha, NE. Smith's research expertise lies in the environmental, social and individual determinants of dietary behaviors as they relate to obesity prevention and cancer risk, including cultural and familial influences on individual dietary behaviors, healthy foods access and availability, issues of food insecurity and dietary measurement and analysis.

Ms. Wielenga is an Extension Program Coordinator at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.  She has also worked with the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), and continues to work with communities addressing food deserts and low-resource areas across Nebraska.
