A New Name and Focus for the Summer Health Professions Education Program

The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) program, a free, six week summer enrichment program for freshman and sophomore college students interested
in medicine and dentistry, has been shaping careers and changing the lives of pre-medical and pre-dental college students for over 27 years. For the first time, the program is expanding to also accept students interested in a variety of health careers, such
as nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant and public health. The program has been renamed
Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP).
|
Eligible students include, but are not limited to, individuals who identify as African American/Black, American Indian and Alaska Native, Hispanic/Latino, and
who are from communities of socioeconomic and educational disadvantage. If you are a college freshman or sophomore, we encourage you to apply and take the opportunity to join this free, six-week summer enrichment program within the health profession of your
interest.
