The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) program, a free, six week summer enrichment program for freshman and sophomore college students interested in medicine and dentistry, has been shaping careers and changing the lives of pre-medical and pre-dental college students for over 27 years. For the first time, the program is expanding to also accept students interested in a variety of health careers, such as nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant and public health. The program has been renamed Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP).

Eligible students include, but are not limited to, individuals who identify as African American/Black, American Indian and Alaska Native, Hispanic/Latino, and who are from communities of socioeconomic and educational disadvantage. If you are a college freshman or sophomore, we encourage you to apply and take the opportunity to join this free, six-week summer enrichment program within the health profession of your interest.

Learn more about the new educational opportunities provided by the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) and how to apply at shpep.org.
