Hi All,

My name is Jon Farkas and I am a Pediatric Fellow at NYU/Bellevue. The research project I am currently starting looks at referral completion - in the adult literature and some pediatric studies, anywhere from 20-40% of people referred to subspecialists (e.g. cardiologists, pulmonologists) do not show up for these recommended appointments. We are attempting to identify the rate of incomplete referrals here and trying to hammer down why they occur (e.g. patient, provider, or system-level issues).

After I identify which clinic patients have been referred, we contact them over the phone and conduct a 20-30 minute survey. This is followed up by an in-person survey a few months later. Right now, I am in need of help making these calls and conducting the surveys. Later on, as the research takes shape, there will be room for growth and other opportunities if you would like.

I am looking for students who can start right away, although the NYU/Bellevue credentialing process might take 1-2 months. Spanish-speakers are preferred, although English-speakers who can make a larger time commitment would also be helpful. Please only respond if you can commit some hours per week to this project.

There are other projects happening in the department - these include 1) Looking at parent's execution and understanding of discharge instructions. 2) Looking at the role of health literacy on medication compliance. These trials are looking for Spanish-speaking students only. I can get you in touch with their investigators if you would like.

Contact me Dr. Jon Farkas at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>if you are interested in volunteering.

Thank you,

Jon Farkas
