Increasingly, students are taking time off in between completing their undergraduate and medical school, often referred to as "gap" or "bridge" years. For many, this additional time is used to help strengthen their applications to medical school. Here are seven benefits to consider when deciding whether to complete a post-bacc program or not.

People who are repeatedly admitted to the hospital are often complicated patients. They may lack primary care, struggle with psychological issues, live in unhealthy housing, or are homeless. Hotspotting is a data-driven method that identifies these people as high-need patients and allows for interdisciplinary teams to work with them to learn their story and to assist in problem-solving. Some medical students are getting the opportunity to be on these teams, and some medical schools are even adding it to their curriculum.
