Ask yourself this.  What are the first word or words that pop in your head when you read…Apple?  How about…Nike?  Amazon?  Netflix..?

Brands…they’re no longer what a company says they are…they’re what you and I say they are.  So my question to you is this…

What are “they” saying about you?

You see, just like you and I don’t really buy an iPhone…running shoes…random stuff…or a miniseries to binge on, our patients don’t buy crowns…and dentists like me don’t buy your skills…

We buy you!

With that, and although I have tons of strategies for you…I’ve got limited words and you’ve got limited time so here goes:

Strategy #1:  Build your brand now.

I know…you’re busy with school.  Twenty two years later, I still have nightmares about B28 from dental school.  That said, there’s no time like the present to define who you want to be when you grow up, so do it.  Throw in your earbuds, crank your fave tunes and type it out.  Who do you want to be seen as in dentistry?   Once you have that, your job is simple.  Find a core group of dental peeps who are already highly successful at who you want to be and get a hold of them.

Don’t know how to connect with them?  Think Kevin Bacon and seven degrees of separation.  Someone who already knows you…knows them.  Happy to be that guy if it serves you.  I’ve got peeps:)

Strategy #2:  Don’t ask what your peeps can do for you…

Great people will inherently want to help you, so asking for help is always solid.  However, life’s about relationships and if you’re connecting for the first time, don’t jump to the ask…flip the ask.

As you’re having a convo (and assuming you’ve been e-introduced minimally), ask if there’s anything you can do to help them.  Odds are, that doc’s had a cray cray day and you are the first person who’s thrown that out there.  Result…they’ll be even happier to help you.  At this point…it’s just math.  Build a relationship with one…nice.  Build a core group of mentor peeps…huge score.

Strategy #3:  Share your brand.

Blogs, podcasts, speaking, volunteering…There are plenty of ways to share your brand.  In fact, ASDA is a great one.  Short story is this…be present.  Present living is optimum.  Remember, many of the peeps you’re looking to aren’t millennials…They don’t dig texting like you.

If life’s too busy, go igniteDDS and go social and one most never think of…go website!  On the ignite side, we have major connections from left to right coasts.  On the social side, Facebook, Instagram are nice for fun and phenomenal for biz…On the website side, all props go to one of you who sent me a link and bazinga…totally floored me!

In summary, remember, people don’t buy stuff…they buy brands…they buy you!  So, if you’re up for building a CRUSHit brand, click here.  I am taking the first 10 students who do so under ignite’s wing.

Until next time.  Together we rise,

~Dr. David Rice, IgniteDDS
