More and more, prospective students are considering adding residency training to their optometric education plan. Optometric residency is a one-year post-doctoral
program where the resident concentrates in specialty patient care in one of the following: Cornea & Contact Lenses, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Ocular Disease, Primary Care, or Pediatric Optometry/Vision Therapy. This concentrated training increases a new OD

at Marshall B. Ketchum University
Located in Fullerton, CA, Marshall B. Ketchum University is an independent, private, non-profit, accredited educational institution. MBKU is now home to the Southern
California College of Optometry, the School of Physician Assistant Studies and College of Pharmacy. Named after the founder of the optometric institution in 1904, the change to a university structure addresses the growing demand for highly skilled health care
professionals.
The university confers a four-year, professional degree, Doctor of Optometry (OD) and a Master of Science in Vision Science (MS) degree. MBKU's School of Physician
Assistant Studies under the College of Health Sciences awards a Master of Medical Sciences (MMS) degree. MBKU's College of Pharmacy admitted its inaugural class Fall 2016 and will award a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
MBKU owns and operates two premier eye and vision care centers, Ketchum Health and the University Eye Center at Los Angeles. Ketchum Health is the new multi-disciplinary
health care center for community patients. The first phase opened June 2016. The second phase will include general medical practice and pharmacy services to allow MBKU's students from all disciplines to provide collaborative patient care together in one clinical
setting.
MBKU is the first health care university in Southern California to bring three primary care disciplines together to learn and work collaboratively to provide effective
patient care.
