Clinical Research in Breast Cancer at the NYU Langone Medical Center and Perlmutter Cancer Center

The Breast Cancer Research Program in the Department of Breast Surgery at NYULMC and Perlmutter Cancer Center has been established to “unite basic scientists, translational researchers, and clinicians to promote clinical and translational research aimed at improving breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment for women from all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.”  The cornerstone of the Breast Cancer and High Risk Genetics Program are the longitudinal databases, which include a comprehensive profile of each newly diagnosed breast cancer patient or high risk patient, including demographics and relevant clinical information. In addition, the participants have been asked to allow investigators to collect biologic specimens (tissue, blood, saliva), for scientific research and storage for future use. The biological samples are stored at the NYULMC Center for Biospecimen Research and Development (CBRD). The biologic specimens help us to identify new clinicopathologic and molecular markers for better prediction of treatment outcomes, and to identify new potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of breast cancer.  These databases have been invaluable resources for academic research and in our assessment of screening processes, current breast cancer treatments, overall outcome, quality of life and survivorship issues.

We are currently looking for students who are hard-working, detail-oriented, and committed to gaining a meaningful experience in clinical research.
