Front End/Developer Intern – NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Melanie Jay Research Lab

Paid position - $5,000 stipend

The GEM Study team is looking for a Front End/Developer Intern to assist in the refinement of an online goal-setting tool. The tool is delivered via tablet computer and used with patients in the primary care setting. The tool helps patients set lifestyle goals related to nutrition, physical activity and weight management.

As a part of the Health Services Research Team: Improving Lifestyle and Weight Management in Primary Care, the Front End/Developer Intern will gain experience working on  critical issues  in healthcare and benefit from working with research team members of diverse, interdisciplinary backgrounds while earning valuable designing experience within a medical setting.

Responsibility: The Front End/Developer Intern will be responsible for helping to redesign and improve the presentation of the goal-setting tool. He/she will collaborate with the study team including research assistants and the computer programmer to redesign the layout and usability of the tool. 

Qualifications:

·         Dedicate approximately 10 hours per week for at least 6-months.

·         Able to work remotely and under tight timelines.

·         Experience with programming software including HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery. Experience in PHP or other back-end languages a plus.

·         Experience with source control applications like Github.

·         Create quality graphic design mock-ups and prototype design specs.

·         Must be able to turn a physical design spec into front-end code.

·         Must understand the concepts of responsive design and able to adjust designs for mobile, tablet, and web.

·         Comprehensive knowledge of design and presentation software such as Photoshop, In Design, or similar applications.

·         Maintain graphic standards and branding throughout the product's interface.
