The Rockefeller Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), supported by an NIH CTSA grant, is seeking two student interns to join its Research Bioinformatics Group. 

 

CCTS is an NIH funded Center that supports cutting edge biomedical research conducted by some of the world’s leading scientists. The Research Informatics Group of the CCTS assists investigators and trainees in analyzing the data they obtain, with a particular focus on studies involving next generation DNA and RNA sequencing and studies requiring ontology-backed phenotyping systems.

 

The successful candidate’s main responsibility is to support and further develop current ontology-based phenotype system. The candidate will also work directly on specific research project to analyze biomedical data and address scientific problems utilizing both third party software and custom-designed software. There are ample opportunities to perform research to advance the field of bioinformatics and medical informatics, including the development of new tools for phenotype-base disease progression prediction.

 

Minimum Education:

o   Currently enrolled in, or recently completed degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field.

Minimum Experience:

o   At least one year of scientific programming experience in a research setting up

Other requirements:

o   Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

o   Knowledge of at least one programming language.

o   Familiarity with Linux and mac operating system.

o   Working experience in python (position A).

o   Web development experience (position A).

o   Database experience (position B).

Desirable Qualifications:

o   Experience with HPC and cloud computing.
